One of the key research areas of Aalto University, and undeniably an important tool in facing the future sustainability challenges of the society.

ERA action 10 is important for the deployment of low carbon technologies and Finland should be proactive versus such European initiatives. VTT experts participate to the Clean Hydrogen JU as member of Hydrogen Europe Research and in the JU’s stakeholder forum as well as coordinating the EERA Joint Programme Fuel Cells and Hydrogen (JP FCH).
National co-funding will be crucial and Finland should consider a Hydrogen Valley on a concrete and reasonable case like Kilpilahti or Terrafame or similar. It is also important that the valley should be based on Finnish value chain from component to whole electrolysers producing green hydrogen and that the other technologies to be demonstrated in the Valley should be as Finnish as possible, to avoid making large investments to buy foreign technologies just to be demonstrated in the Valley without creating any business for Finland.

We support the action to rethink the SET Plan governance in order to align it to the new objectives. The reformulation of the SET-plan, and in particular the energy roadmaps, should increase synergies with all related Horizon Europe partnerships, not only the Life-CET partnership, and connect with the dialogue between the partnerships "additional activities" and national/regional programmes. In this way, the SET plan can become an essential tool in delivering the R&I part of the Energy Union.
