Being one of the core values of the University of Helsinki, academic freedom in its many forms should continue to be promoted both nationally and within the European Union. As a backbone for democratic societies, academic freedom should be protected for example by securing that Finland and other ERA countries as well as the EU continue to support fundamental, investigator-driven research.
