The promotion of open science is central to scientific renewal, excellence, and societal impact. University of Oulu Open Science practices follow national and European Union guidelines. Even though the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) has developed considerably, it is still difficult for researchers to understand its potential and to find and implement its services. The university supports the goals of the EOSC to bring together open science data services and data produced in the EU to make the use of services and the sharing of research results as simple and easy as possible.
EOSC needs also to be further developed, so that its governance structure and implementation will be accessible and sustainable. Legislative framework remains one of the main obstacles of open science and sharing of data. The University of Oulu supports the revision of the EU’s copyright and data rules which should provide better conditions for research to access and reuse publicly funded research articles and datasets.
