The threats brought to "trust in science" from false information or disinformation campaigns (e.g. due to foreign interference) should be included in the description of the action. Trust in science can also be highly affected if citizens believe in all info that is published and don't have good tools or knowledge to know when the information has real scientifically proven facts.

Building trust in science stands in the core of European democracy because undermining of reliability of research and critical thinking is a threat to democratic societies. The suggested measures such as participatory research can and Citizen science actions (ERA 14) are important part of this approach, and one of the suggested measures (“Borrow a researcher”) is supporting this. It is crucial to spread information about how science evolves. Actually, the really important part starts already at schools, these measures could be combined as they all work for the same goal.
Evidence-based prevention and mitigation of science denial can already be done based on research conducted so far but a synthesis is lacking, and it is worth investigating how much foreign interference and propaganda are the drivers behind science denialist thoughts.
