VTT believes that supporting the interdisciplinarity of the research ecosystem including social sciences and humanities is important in the all the time more complex environment. The mentioned better recognition of the role of intermediaries should not mean any mandatory or recommended use of intermediary companies in projects which don't require any new parties outside the research project. E.g. RTOs have traditionally operated as both research and intermediary party and no other facilitators are normally needed. No measure should be put in place to relieve research organizations of responsibility in their collaboration strategy with industry, this strategy itself must be linked to their scientific programming.

We support the action’s focus on supporting the implementation of the Guiding principles and the Codes of Practice for knowledge valorisation. However, with regards the emphasis of the role of knowledge valorisation intermediaries, it should be recognized that many research performing organisations have invested in in-house knowledge valorisation expertise and services, and thus can act in both research and valorisation role. Perspective of the action should remain wide including also non-technological research results from social sciences and humanities for addressing complex societal and policy challenges. Fostering the valorisation of research results should also be accompanied by appropriate follow-up funding, support mechanisms and incentives for researchers and their careers.

It is good that SSHA and their role in solving complex problems is mentioned as part of the initiative. Knowledge valorisation is easily combined to technology and requires resources. While multidisciplinary universities usually have in-house knowledge and resources, smaller HEIs may lack this which is why support maybe needed.
