VTT is concerned that the current ERA Action on Reform of Research Assessment doesn’t represent the way to assess researchers outside of academia and mostly concerns publications. We see that other aspects such as excellence and impact should be considered. Recognition should also be given to research done on applied science and direct projects with the industry.

At national level, we must avoid that the action will negatively interfere with Research and Technology Organisations and companies processes on research assessment and HR practices (e.g. putting strong emphasis on academic qualifications only).
The proposed coalition must cater for the needs of research outside academia in a meaningful and equal way. Otherwise, we urge to rename the action “Research assessment in higher education institutions”.
