VTT participated in the informal expert group meetings on the Research Management Initiative to develop ERA action 17. It is very important to consider the needs of all RPOs including academia and RTOs. We agree that the lack of recognition of the profession of research managers or research support staff is the main challenge. The skills development should be forward looking to avoid to train people for past needs, and should include how to advise on RRI, open science, best practices in valorisation of IP, legal and financial implication of EU R&I funding. Additionally, skills development needs to include academy industry collaboration in order to foster a tighter collaboration with the academy and industry.
